Sometimes the effort is worth more than the result. Such was the case for Katie Guyot on Monday night at Harriet Tubman Middle School in Notorious D.I.G.'s opening night victory vs Scared Hitless. During a point in the first set Katie dove & stretched & slid & did everything she could to reach an errant pass only to come up just short. She was clearly hindered by the fall but dusted herself right off, and with good humor, got ready for the next point. It is this never say die competitive spirit mixed with the good sportsmanship to come up smiling even when the result didn't go her way that exemplifies the Underdog spirit. Congratulations Katie! You are Week 1's Player of the Week!
Heather was a force to be reckoned with in her first game of the new season! On court she was aggressive and quick. Never a hesitation, she laid out full wingspan to rescue any ball in no man's land. She acted as a utility with a dynamic skill set and aided her team to victory against Torn Ligaments. Hooray Heather you are Player of the Week!
NOTORIOUS D.I.G. .... The comeback kids!! Not breaking into double digits, they deceivingly appeared defeated in the first set. Lo and behold, they dipped, ducked, dived and earned victories to sweep Scared Hitless in the next two sets! This team rallied together and laughed at their errors to come out on top. True definition of an Underdog team of the week!
Tommy banked in the second set with an unanswered powerful serve. He captured 5 points to sweep the game. His performance did not start or end there! He stayed on his toes and peaked in sweet defensive actions. He supported each of his peers and was instrumental in his on court communication. He closed out the third set victory with one killer service! Tommy, are player of the week!
Despite strolling in a teensy bit late, Julie kicked it into high gear and played her best match. She was in ready position each minute. She had had a deceiving serve and twinkle toes before she tipped the ball. There was extra time to play and Julie was instrumental in convincing the other team to play one more set. She kept the fun alive!

Spike Club
Spike Club showed up and conquered. They came out swinging this match and had fun doing it! Hops here, hops there, players took turns attacking at the net. They soared above and smacked it time and time again. Their serves were critical to their success...precise and well executed! They rallied on defense to close a losing gap in their final match and walked away with a sweep. Congrats Spike Club on your Team of the Week efforts!
