Block Party Joins St. Charles' Thursday Midcore Lineup
With only four players available on opening night at St. Charles Midcore League, Block Party knew they needed to have everyone on board and in sync. Enter Mark Goerke, who took that message seriously and performed magnificently throughout the game. Fierce and forceful, Mark navigated his way to grab digs and saves to keep the volleys going. HIs enthusiasm and spirit were more than enough to keep his teammates energized and his service was exact and powerful. Way to bring it with a small crew, Mark - you more than made up for lack of a full squad!

How I Set Your Mother Takes Three from All About That Ace
When the front row rotation has Elsa Manning in the mix, you can be sure that How I Set Your Mother has a great combination of offense and defense in play. Elsa has a keen eye for the attacker and times her blocks like she's setting a Swiss watch. Uncanny skills in anticipating the offense, but she is equally dangerous when she becomes the attacker. Her tips and kills were in full force on Thursday at St. Charles Midcore and Elsa's incredible play put HISYM on top of all three sets vs. All About That Ace. Elsa's power at net is the backbone of HISYM's winning success and that means we bestow our POTW honor on her!

Jolene Byford Gets the Job Done!
Jolene Byford Gets the Job Done!
Random sets
Jolene Byford is the perfect teammate to have because she always has your back when the competition turns intense. She is a steady presence on the court and this trait was on full display on Thursday night at St. Charles in a great match vs. Sets on the Beach. With only four players, Jolene's team, Random Sets, made a huge statement in winning the first set decidedly. Sets on the Beach had enough of that, so ramped up their game to make the second set a close one. No problem for Jolene who dazzled us with some incredibly difficult plays to keep the volleys alive and the points coming for the Random Sets. After dropping the second set, Jolene led the charge at the service line and on defense to bring the third set victory home. So when you need to have a solid player to back you up, Jolene is the one!

Block Party
The sky's the limit when Erin Wallman is on your team. As Block Party's most spirited teammate, She keeps the fun and energy comin' when she brings her hops to the court. In a highly charged contest vs. Sets on the Beach, Erin became a wall of defense in the middle and front rows with spectacular saves and ups to compliment her three teammates. Yes, most nights Block Party plays with only four people but appears to have no trouble in their winning ways. Contributing to their success, Erin can really get up at net and her offensive moves were especially effective in a few of her trademark kills which put the Sets's defense on skates. With her spunky style and plenty of energy, Erin sets the tone for victory and enthusiasm night after night and resulted in a 3-0 sweep of the Sets.

.....and gets an arm swing and a knee down. She is a fearless flyer when she sets her mind on winning and that's the key to Taylor Asch's incredible performance on Thursday night at St. Charles. Playing an intense match vs. All About That Ace, the Random Sets were lead by Taylor's competitiveness and seemingly endless energy. Her impossible saves and catch-all ups made for intense volleys and points. The Random Sets prevailed in the first game and dropped the second but roared back to a 25-16 victory in the third behind Taylor's crashing the net on defense and excellent back row work.

Sadie Has a Monster Night!
Sadie Has a Monster Night!
New Kids on the Block
NKOTB's Sadie Casacca played every spot on the court to perfection on Thursday at St. Charles Midcore. No matter where she landed in the rotation, Sadie's performance was on fire with outstanding defense and offense that never seemed to quit. Her competitiveness was contagious as her teammates caught the energy bug and offered beautimous sets for Sadie to pound down on at net. Her service was nothing to bat an eyelash at, and woe to the opponents from Block Party who were on the receiving end of those bombs from the line! As if her serving wasn't enough, Sadie is a great example of playing your heart out as she tumbled to the floor time after time to get the most out of an up.

Michaela McNairy Leads the Way to Perfection
Michaela McNairy Leads the Way to Perfection
Random sets
Random Sets left nothing on the floor during Thursday Midcore semis and championship games. And Michaela McNairy made sure of that. Random Sets were ready for victory with Michaela getting the job done on all sides of the court. From fabulous leaping service to rock solid blocks on defense, she was exceptional in every way. Her leadership is empowering and her squad delivered with precision setting and pounding kills first against Sets on Sets on Sets in the semis and again versus Block Party in the finals. And Michaela was the force that brought it all together. Congrats to her and Random Sets on taking the USL Thursday Midcore crown at St. Charles!
