Winter Co-Ed Futsal at SE PDX Courts Wednesdays

Here at Underdog we like style. A good outfit goes a long way (and in some leagues can win you some sweet prizes). Jon was en fuego from the second he slipped his socks on and headed out to The Courts.

With comments coming from the sidelines all night on his hot apparel it was clear Jon was going to have a big night and boy was it a caliente one. Two goals to help his team to victory and a fighting spirit that had him commanding his team with good directions and an upbeat attitude. He truly embodied the little peppers that adorned his socks. His play was spicy and his leadership was bold.

We appreciate Jon very much for sharing his jalapeno socks with us and we certainly hope he keeps that fun and fiery theme going throughout the rest of the Underdog Futsal season! You are officially now our own little jalapeno popper!

We as refs sometimes like to think of our occupation as an acronym. R.E.F... Rarely encounters friends. And yes okay maybe we bring some of it on ourselves with the terrible calls, I mean really come on. Right!?

Well, here at Underdog Futsal, we have found that rare friend. When the referee stops the game many times it is met with groans and stink eyes. To stop the match and ruin the momentum can truly be a cardinal sin, however Kirsten found something special in the moment. It was a chance to learn and watch the league grow.

A simple 50/50 ball led to a bit of a scrum and a concerned referee stopped the match. There was no foul but a lesson could be learned. As most players tapped their feet impatiently waiting for the game to get going again, Kirsten listened.

It was what happened after that encapsulated why we as referees (and we certainly hope as players) love Underdog Futsal. Running to the sideline once the speech was over, Kirsten approached the ref with her hand raised. No, not for the slap you all want to give us, but for something you will rarely see in competitive sports - she high-fived the ref. It was in that moment that that we have decided to change it up a little. R.E.F... Really enjoys friends. Thanks Kirsten!

We here at Underdog have been tagged. Officials came home Wednesday night to find their reports had been vandalized and the search was narrowed down pretty quickly due to the content. On one of the scoring sheets, in the top right corner someone decided to write, "Never Nudes fo' Eva" and also included a very real to life sketch of a soccer ball (in actuality it looks more like a lopsided flotation device). Given this information we will be calling in all players from the Never Nudes squad for handwriting samples.

But really, who dun it? Because, one, obviously the above statement is a joke, we don't care, and two, we love it. This is what makes our league fun. On a playoff night when the heat of competition could have been the highlight, instead we have the shenanigans from the Nudes going on... The Seven Deadly Shins showing up in costumes with music... Foot Clan stomping the floor in traditional fashion before the match... and so much more.

This is what makes our league great. So thank you to whoever decided to grab the pen and scribble down the note and we agree here, we hope the Never Nudes do last fo' eva! Here is to all of the Underdog squads that make this league fun!
