And a Big Bump Aaron had...right into the side basket off the back board. It usually takes a couple weeks of play to master, but Aaron made the basket that makes all the volleyball teams cheer. But his bumping basketball skills aren't the only reason Aaron is the seasons first Player of the Week. He had great effort all night long in his first game with Underdog. There wasn't a ball in his vicinity that he didn't attempt to play. Great work and effort Aaron!
This weeks player of the week came dressed for the part. With a perfectly petite crown and warrior braid, Kelly Y earned herself the Player of Week title. It wasn't just her crown, but her hard work and great communication on the court. Kelly comes ready to play volleyball and have a good time doing it. A great captain who sets up her team for big hits, she a a top notch Underdog Player of the Week. Great work Kelly, keep it up!
Tim earned himself player of the week for the diving one arm save that scored the point in the winning second game. If we all had out our iPhones for slow motion, it would be a great video. It wasn't just this one play that Tim earned player of the week, his effort all night was OnPoint. He was a leader in helping Balls N Dolls earned their win tonight! Great work Tim!
This week Steve had his team pumped up and ready to for a game against the Cranberry's. The fun started at the Sponsor Bar, Lompoc before hand and the competition grew as the game went on. It was a fun game that Steve lead his team to put up a great fight. All night Steve worked hard, diving to keep the play alive. He made some great plays and made sure the gym was having a great time. Good work both on and off the court Steve!
Serving was everyones game tonight. We had some aces from behind the line this week and leading the way was David from Bump-N-Stuff. He was key to helping his team earn the win tonight in a close game versus Balls on the Line. David had a 13 point serving streak in the second game to tie up the match and send it to the third game. Big hits and some diving saves by David helped seal the deal in the third game. Great work David and all of Bump N Stuff.
Second match of the night Otak Attack taking on the Cranberry's for the last match of the regular season. It was a nice match, that had rallies with great saves, hustle and communication. Players were talking, calling the ball and having fun.
Cheering on the Cranberry's server, playing the part of her 'cheering' section, before the serve, they were all ready and supportive. Showing great attitudes and backing up their teammates, it was a great all around effort. Keep up the mojo!
I Like Big Bumps forfeited to The Cranberry's - Indy #V19.
Scott Sanders
OTAK ATTACK
OTAK ATTACK's Scott Sanders looks as though he has one mission for this Softcore Volleyball season at Friendly House - and that's to check "champion" off his goal list. His high flyin' action comes right off a highlight reel and he had some spectacular kills in the quarterfinal match vs. Balls on the Line. After losing the second set to force Game 3, Scott was determined to use his service prowess in some lengthy scoring opportunities with a couple nice aces thrown in. His "Rocket Launcher" mentality was in fine form as OTAK cruised to a Game 3 win and match to advance in a semifinal matchup. Looking forward to seeing what other tricks MVP Scott has up his sleeve next week!
This week's Friendly House POTW goes to veteran USL player, Collier Ellis. You'll see Collier play on various VB teams throughout the league - indoor, sand, grass - doesn't matter, this guy loves the game. His efforts in the semifinal game vs. Balls N' Dolls was key to The Cranberries advancing to the championship finals. Collier kept numerous volleys alive with some fantastic plays, especially at mid-court, where he was a masterful setter and provided many great assists. He was particularly effective at net in the championship match vs. OTAK ATTACK as he led his squad to a great comeback in Game 2, pushing to a 2-point 26-24 loss. While The Cranberries came up short to place second in the championship, Collier was a standout throughout the evening through both matches and against different opponents. This versatile and dedicated volleyballer gets our respect and admiration for his love of the game!
