First Place

Summer Co-ed Flag Football at Lewis and Clark Wednesdays

More raw than a toddler Luke Skywalker… that’s how Flaggin’ Ball Z crawled in to this league 3 short seasons ago. Young, fit, unbridled… if they were a steak dinner they’d be served “blue.”

Apollo: god of prophecy, son of Zeus, and High School mascot for a number of these team members; including star male and female quarterbacks. Standing on their sideline you’d overhear a smattering of “Go Apollos” cheers. Which is especially fitting as an analogy for their seasons in this league.

You could say their first season resembled the space mission Apollo 1: Never launched. By season 2 things were looking up, a bit of a dress rehearsal, circa Apollo 10. On this perfect August night, under a beautiful full moon, Flaggin’ Ball Z performed a flawless mission, their Apollo 11.

With a thrust of the rockets here and a calculation of trajectory there Flaggin’ Ball Z became Underdog Portland’s Flag Football Champions of the World! Underdog players and staff alike have watched in awe as they transformed their unbridled talent into a multiphase attack offense, smothering defense, and cohesive uplifting team. This ones for you Flaggin’ Ball Z.

Flaggin' Ball Z

Flaggin Ball Z looks like they did some serious training during the spring. They played last fall, then known as Mediocre Athletes*, and they were a very fun team, but they didn't record a lot of wins.

This week, they came ready to play. Stacked is a dangerous team with lots of tall receivers, but Flaggin Ball hung in there. The teams traded quick scores all game, but the difference was two interceptions. The upstarts snagged game changing INTs and locked down the victory.
