Kirsten S (S for Safety)

Tie those shoelaces young man

Soccer players have come to have a little bit of a reputation for being selfish. They can time waste, dive, argue and only have one thing on their mind... a win for their team. Not Kirsten. Kirsten in a very unselfish moment took it upon herself to look out for the safety of her opponent.

In a close game, in which she could have left their goalkeeper tripping over himself, distracted by the folly... giving her team an advantage... she decided to take the road less traveled. Delaying a corner, ignoring the runs of her teammates, Kirsten yelled to the goalie to inform him about his shoelaces, completely ignoring how much time was on the clock, the magnitude of a playoff win, and the tightness of the match. In this moment she decided to be helpful and to be kind.

It is moments like this that remind us why we love Underdog sports (like Futsal) so much. It is not as if this is the only time people are kind, but we tend to see this type of attitude more often here. It was on display at other times during this season of Futsal, and we thank those who showed great sportsmanship, but tonight was about Kirsten and her simple act of unselfish kindness.
