The Portland Cucumbers attacked early scoring 7 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning, and added on 5+ runs per inning in the first 4 innings. Defensively they were as solid as they come, turning two double plays and allowing no runs through 4 innings! Casserole Crew finally got runs on the board in the 5th and 6th, but it would not be enough to pull within reach of the Cucumbers, as they scored 6 more insurance runs in the bottom of the 6th. The Portland Cucumbers finished their Championship game with a 3 up 3 down 7th, defeating the Casserole Crew 34-8.
On occasion, sports offer a platform for an athlete to transcend the competition and the game played. Such was the case when Kyle of Portland Cucumbers transcended softball with his incredible performance. All game long, Kyle was locked in to help secure the win for his team. Recording 3 home runs, a single, and stellar plays at shortstop, Kyle made the game look easy all night long. For his truly outstanding performance, Kyle is our Player of the Week! Congratulations!
