Michael made amazing play after slip sliding amazing play Tuesday w/ his teams in a close game. They pulled out the 1 point victory and moseyed over to Alleyway w/ a POTW and a win.
Trailing by six runs in the top of the 7th inning, Balls Deep and the Double Entendres made a savvy defensive switch, bringing Edward LeClaire behind the plate to try to keep the game close. With his crazy antics and profound enthusiasm for retrieving errant pitches, LeClaire helped distract the Rudabaga Stus just enough to put the Double Entendres in a position to rally for the win. Which they didn't. But no matter -- LeClaire's creative approach to catching makes him our player of the week.
In the fifth inning, trailing by three runs, The Never Nudes put runners on first and second with no outs. The pressure was on Balls Deep to protect their lead, but nobody could have predicted they would turn a triple play in order to do so! Jami Walker caught a low line drive at second, and immediately pegged the runner who had advanced from first. Our POTG, Jeff Shoemaker, scooped up the ball and tagged out the runner who had advanced off second. A spectacular play all around -- and for getting two thirds of the outs, Jami is an easy choice for our player of the week.
One week after being named player of the week for recording the third out of a remarkable triple play, Jeff Shoemaker of Balls Deep made perhaps the most exciting catch in Alberta Park kickball history. Out in left field, he tracked down a line drive, bobbled the ball on impact, then continued to bobble and chase it literally halfway across the field, before finally corralling it. Although Balls Deep ended up losing to Kicmaballs, this play was still being talked about after the game by players on both sides. A true highlight!
Eric is this week's POTW honoree for his awesome plays in the field. Everything that came his way at shortstop was caught and he tracked down all pop flies. The best play of the day came in the 6th inning when a line drive was kicked right at him. As Eric lunged at the ball he deflected it behind his back and hung on just enough to record the out. Eric had the sickest, check that, the "Fickes" snag of the day.

POTW: Heather Hardie-Hill
Never Nudes
Down more than a dozen runs in the 6th inning, the Never Nudes pulled out all the stops in their first round playoff game, sending Heather Hardie-Hill behind the plate in a full-body "nude suit," complete with dangling male appendage. Heather successfully distracted the Rudabaga Stus hitters, and in the top of the seventh she reached base, giving hope to her team that an epic comeback might be in the works. Alas, it was not. But for showing that a Never Nude can "bare it all" when the season's on the line, Heather is unquestionably our player of the week. Well done!

POTW: Josh Gibbs
Balls Deep and the Double Entendres
Josh Gibbs was on fire in the championship game. He helped lead his team to the championship and didn't stop there. Not only was he a gazelle with mad hands in the outfield, he also had the leg of a giant when he hit a 3 run bomb to put his team in the lead in the top of the 4th. This sparked the team to score 4 more runs throughout the game and maintain the lead in their 11-6 win over VIP-ness. Great job Gibbs, you are the player of the week!
