Pitches & Throws
The best was saved for last on opening day of Spring Co-Ed softball at Pennisula Park. Coming off a tough loss in their prior game, P-Town Crushers were prepared to get into the win column against Pitches & Throws in the final game of the evening. Taking a commanding 6-0 lead into the bottom of the 2nd, it appeared P-Town Crushers were on their way to a solid win. Logan Dougherty, the starting pitcher for Pitches and Throws, finally got into hit pitching grove in the middle innings to keep the game close. Tied 17-17, Logan led off the bottom of the 7th inning with one thing on his mind...end this game right now and be the hero. One pitch, one swing, one inside the park home run...Logan finished the game in amazing style between two quality teams.

Some would call garrett a character. I would call him a ball player. This guy showed up and was ready to go from the first pitch. He was always trying to pick his team up if they made a mistake. It is easy to tell why he is the captain of this team. He is a great leader and has team FML working like a well oiled machine.

Jacob Corey never stops hustling. On multiple occasions he turned singles to doubles and doubles to triples. He was a latter day Rickey Henderson this week when he purposefully got himself into a run down and proceeded to beat the throw at third with a mean slide just under the tag.

Day Donkey
With Jorge Posada's career coming to an end, and Joe Mauer's "bi-lateral leg weakness" people need a new all star catcher to get behind. Underdog sports may have found the next great thing behind the plate. Hannah Lowen represented Day Donkey with her excellent play making ability at the dish this weekend.

In weeks passed, players feared for their lives when Bayley Putnam came to came to the plate. Not because of her screaming line drives or home run power, but her ability to turn the bat into a 32 ounce missile after every swing. Bayley was on a mission to put her teammates fears to rest and managed to hold onto the bat each and every time she came to the plate. That's why she's this week's "Player of the Week." Congrats Bayley!

Pitches & Throws
Marcus left his mark on the softball world Sunday by playing in four different games around Northeast Portland. Marcus and his Pitches and Throws played a game at Fernhill Park and then hightailed it over to Peninsula Park for a double-header. Marcus even stuck around and played a fourth game for a team short on players. However, Marcus wasn't content just to show up. He roamed the outfield for two games, then came on and pitched the entire third game. Couple that with his barrage of game changing home runs and you are talking about the player of the week.

The Whole Donkey - Player of the Week
The entire Day Donkey team put in such a wonderful performance on the way to the championship, they elected to name the entire team the player of the week. As the umpire, I completely agree. This was a total team effort!
