Courtney Miskell - Queen of Thursday Night!
All about that ace is all about winning
All About That Ace got the Late Fall Midcore season off to a good start behind the ferocious play of Courtney Miskell. She joins the team after a VB hiatus and she obviously came ready to start throwing her arm again. Delivering up great serving and wow factor on defense, Courtney sparked a 2-1 set match vs. Bump Up the Jam. Her court sense is incredible and therefore, little or nothing stands in her way of getting to every tip and up. Her successive service points made for a great offensive showing as well. Way to go on Week 1, Courtney!
All About that Ace was a hoot. Their team talent has exceptionally progressed since their first days as a team. Not to mention, they always bring and exuded the hypest of energies. Despite their 3 loss set, they competed with skill and positive demeanor. Look out competition!
Success is all about how far you will go to reach your goal. With that in mind, then Kevin Tracy of Cathy and the Jugheads is all about success, 'cause there's nothing he won't do to save a ball. Kevin dazzled the spectators and his fellow teammates with unbelievable determination and agility with some of the best saves we've ever seen. Most impressive was the dive to the floor with a flip of his arm just before the ball touched the floor to propel the ball with the perfect loft for his front row squad to pitch over net. Too bad it wasn't on camera, 'cause it could have made the ESPN Top 10 Plays of the Night. Since no actual footage exists, Kevin will just have to settle for our Thursday Midcore POTW!!
All About That Ace's Nathan Bell brought the energy and the finesse at Thursday Midcore vs. Cathy & the Jugheads. His heads up play was definitely the highlight of the night because he seemed to know just what to do whenever the ball came his way. Most impressive was his fist punch ups at the net that saved the day on numerous occasions. During several long volleys, Nathan and the Aces were setting, tipping and upping the ball with aggression and intensity. His determination was infectious to his teammates and made for three great sets to witness. Even though they came up short winning only one set, the games were close and lively thanks to Nathan's energy!
Nicole Matthews' energy was unbelievable at St. Charles on Thursday night. She tore through the court with spunk, encouragement and tenacity to elevate her teammates on Bump Up the Jam to two solid wins over Sets on Sets on Sets. Nicole was fearless in her set management and her Bump Up buds were energized by her will to win. She dove, she drove, she wove her way to attacks and digs and also had her way at the service line. Not only that, but she's a great leader on the court - all around MVP for January 11!
Sklyer Whitley is the most enthusiastic captain we've seen at USL volleyball in a long time. Captain Skyler knows how to motivate his team Sets on Sets on Sets with energy galore but especially when it's playoff time. Thursday Midcore semifinals found Skyler and company battling it out with Bump Up the Jam for the honor of playing in the finals later in the evening. The Sets had their mojo working along with Skyler's coaching to come out on top of the Jam, three sets to zip to move them into the finals vs. How I Set Your Mother. Skyler was all over the court in that match, but his best asset is at net with the most gentle of tips perfectly placed where no man or woman could reach on defense. The end result was a victory in three sets and another championship for Captain Skyler and the Sets (on Sets on Sets)!
