The 29ers had a double header on opening day for Underdog flag football. They seemed have conserved their energy for both games. They unfortunately lost their first game but came back to win their second game.
Amongst the roller coaster ride that they had on opening day arose a bright and shining star, Dan Perkins. He was all about smiles and laughter....ohh and of course he made some big plays in both games.
When the final whistle blew in the 1st game, he spirits were still high and encouraging his team by uplifting their spirits. After they won their second game, he was very modest and had the quote of the day by stealing Wayne Gretzky's words, "You miss 100% of shots you never take."
Know it. Learn it. Live it! For those fabulous words, we give Dan Perkins the Player of the Week award. Congratulations.
In addition to coining the term "strategerizing" Michelle "Cankles" Meneses is also our Player of the Week. While Michelle did pull in some clutch catches throughout the day she more notably brought her great sense of humor and team spirit out onto the gridiron. While GGW squad suffered a tough loss today, Michelle rallied the troops and kept them laughing and in the game.
Negative Reinforcement turned positive when Emily Bethune took control. She ate her Wheaties, drank her Gatorade, and brought her "A" game for the showdown against The Rastabouts.
She took the field with a pep in her step and ready to play. When her number was called to make a catch, she caught the ball and turned a completion to a touchdown. When it became a gender play, she came in as quarterback and ended up going 5 for 5 in completions.....and they were touchdowns.
Emily had the highest quarterback rating since the stat was invented. She showed everyone that there is a Tebow in her and shouldn't be overlooked.
Congratulations to Emily Bethune as she easily runs away with the Player of the Week award.
No one is more excited for the re-release of Star Wars in 3D than Tommy Moore. He is so excited about this news that he brought his lite saber to the field to have next to him on the sidelines. On the 1st play from scrimmage, he went deep and made an amazing one -handed grab. He then put his head down and ran the slowest 40 yard dash anyone has ever seen for the touchdown. He walked out to sidelines and celebrated by re-enacting the epic fight scene between Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader by himself.
Maybe he is looking to try out for a community play or maybe he is just an avid fan of the films. One thing is for sure, he knows how to have fun. For all this fun, he deserves the coveted Player of the Week award.
The Tea Flaggers were inspired by the fabulous words of team defense, but Amanda Willis took it to heart. She came out on the field like the Tazmanian Devil seeing red.
When The Tea Flaggers were on defense, if there was a player around her area, Amanda would kick up a storm to get their flags pulled for the tackle. In the 1st half alone, she had 10 flag pulls.
2nd half came and Balls & Dolls decided not to throw it where she was covering. So Amanda ran up and down the field like Micheal Phelps swimming to tackle everyone that had the ball.
Amanda's defense saved the day with her jaw-dropping defense that eventually helped her team to a victory.
Congratulations to a record setting Amanda Willis with 27 flag pulls in a single game. She now has bragging rights as the Player of the Week!
"Can you please not throw it so hard."
Those were the words of Joe Dessimoz teammate that enraged Joe and motivated him to play hard. Despite their team name, Some Like it Soft, Joe showed that he is a mutant and will catch a ball even if it is zipping threw the air.
During the game against Girls Gone Wild, Joe was a mad man pulling off crazy stunt moves as he was Ray Lewis. When he was on offense, he had his own version of an NFL helmet rocking out a beanie to make him look more manly. When his secret was out that he is really scared of the ball, which is why he was doing the stunt moves, he was more at home. Joe then showed his true passion and started to imitate moves like a ballerina.
On this day, Joe could've gotten away with anything because it was his birthday. For him acting a fool, and having tons of fun while doing it, we give Joe Dessimoz from Some Like it Soft the Player of the Week. Congratulations.

Scared Inspiration
Game Lust
Courtney told her team going into the playoffs that no one will go home in one piece unless they make it to the finals next week. That was enough inspiration to get her team fired up to play on Sunday.
Win or go home, and that is exactly what Rastabouts did. In their 1st game, the players were so scared by Courtney's threats that they stepped up their game on defense. Rastabouts broke a record by tallying 303 flag pulls in the 1st half alone. They ended up beating a valiant team in Balls & Dolls to advance to the semi-finals.
In their 2nd game, Courtney decided to threaten her husband, Jason. She had a break out performance on offense capped off by an amazing one handed, off balanced, teeter-totering the sideline catch on 4th and long. Before the game, she said "It wouldn't be good tonight if Jason doesn't throw me the ball."
The Roustabouts satisfied Courtney's lust for the game to help advance to the finals next week. They were lead on offense in one game and defense in the other by Courtney Severson and for that she deserves the Player of the Week award. Congratulations.
Every week we hear the words ......"Can we play now?" These are the famous words from Shelby Gerrits as she smiles and is over excited to play. Usually she says this as she is standing in the cold, but championship week, they weather was warm and she said that during halftime waiting to get the 2nd half started.
Through out the season, she creates havoc and is a quarterback's nightmare as she leads the league in sacks with 29. She is a defensive presence on the field that cannot be over looked. In the games on Sunday she was so excited she began to scream off the top of her lungs in celebration that it was not raining.
Shelby has a smile that makes her look innocent, but you should not fall for it as it is a decoy to her excellent game play. For that awesome misdirection, she gets the Player of the Week award. Congratulations.
