Jennifer brought so much energy to the court in tonight's season opener! She showed up with a team that hadn't played much volleyball before and was joining Underdog for the first time. They were excited to learn the rules of the game and start playing. Jennifer led the team as their captain and made sure to keep the communication flowing on the court. She did a great job helping her teammates know their positions and the best ways to make power plays, all while dancing and laughing through all three sets. Overall, Spiked Punch had an amazing first game and will be a pleasure to watch this season. Great job Jen and team- keep it up!
The big moment happened before Dinkheads could hit the floor. St. Charles was under water after a ball was served with extreme permission at an open water bottle. Stephanie jumped into action and rushed to grab paper towels to help clean it up. The game must go on! As the games progressed Stephanie's serves got harder, her sets got more accurate and she was reading the court with ease. Good job Stephanie on an great game all around.
No matter how intense the competition, there should always be room for sportsmanship in any game. Lynnea is a great volleyball player, and an even better teammate. She is constantly cheering, clapping, and high fiving her way through the match. Lynnea embodied the Underdog spirit with her attitude. For increasing the fun had by all, she is our Player of the Week. Congratulations!
Emily needs to be highlighted for her amazing improvement. This season she gotten so comfortable on the court and it shows. Emily is going after the balls and getting them up. Watch out her serves have got great power. She’s on the court talking to her team letting them know when she’s got it. She also encouraged her teammates greatly. Awesome job Emily, keep it up!
Talk about some intense and intimidating serves! Alfredo takes advantage of having complete control over the ball with his serves. Flat footed he manages to hit it just right so it not only spins at a crazy speed but drops hard and fast just over the other side of the net! Its insane! And with a serve like that he was able to bring his team back into the game and even into the lead with such a crazy serving streak! Not to mention the crazy back row plays he made! From all the way in the back row he was able to drive the ball back over the net with a pass! Such a fun game to watch filled with such awesome plays! Congrats on being the player of the week!!
Jennifer is Player of the Week, this week (and every week) Jennifer shows her team and competitor what true sportsmanship is and and has embodied the Underdog spirit. Her presence electrifies the gym, and it's not just because of the teams safety orange colored jersey, and her matching neon shoes and tall socks. Jennifer encouraged and cheered on her teammates through each play even after the game had been decided. Thanks for your positive attitude and sharing your joy for volleyball with others.
Player of the week goes to Ellen, what an incredible couple of matches! In game one she dug her team out of a hole with a miraculous serving streak forcing the game to go into overtime. Her serves were low and deep with a bit of a float, making them difficult to pass and the perfect way to get back in the game. In games two and three Ellen strategically placed spikes in the deep corners and kept up her consistent serving. Not only did she make some great volleyball plays night but she showed off her dance moves throughout the game. Thank for coming out and having a good time, awesome game!
Wow! That's the only way to describe how Gary played today. Gary of G unit displayed great court knowledge and awareness during today's game. He had an incredible save on the right side of the court that went over the net, then he hustled back to the far side of the court to block the ball coming back over. In set 2 G unit was down by 12. After a short streak G unit was within striking range, and it was Gary's serve. At 24-20 he got the sever, 6 aces later he won the set and the match for his team. Great job Gary!
