No Big Deal came out to play in the summer sand to have fun, and they showed how much fun they can be. Each player had a smile on their face and ready to play, but one player stood out above the rest, Rachel Henry.
Her team invited her to come out and enjoy the sun while playing volleyball. Once Rachel showed up, she was worried that the league tested for steroid use. She showed why she was worried. On the 1st serve of the match, Rachel hit the ball 40 feet in the air and about 20 feet further than the court allowed. As her team was laughing, Rachel was flexing her muscles! Her teammates said ....."I like that energy, but we need 50% of that!"
During a break in between games, Lauren made a comment "I'm feeling a W!" This comment was topped by Rachel who then replied "Yea.....the worst player ever!" Once she said that, everyone stopped in their tracks to laugh at that marvelous comment.
Despite their loss, team No Big Deal had a lot of fun being out there in the sand. Rachel Henry seemed to have the most fun out there showing her smile and sportsmanship as she joked around the whole day. Good play and even better attitude, which is why Rachel gets the coveted Player of the Week Award. Congratulations!
The sun was out and so were the Under-doggers. Sun+Sand=Underdog.
Everyone came out with good intentions and they brought the good times. One team stood out above the rest. Team I Rack showed up with beach blankets to lay out in the sand, a boom box with the good vibes to listen to and a volleyball in hand.
During game play, Jordan would distract the other team by making priceless faces when he would hit the ball. They were like a snowflake, each unique and non the same. He say ".....to overcompensate for my lack of skill."
While I Rack would scramble to hit the ball, Josh would yell out "Steak & Eggs". Everyone seems to think that he had the best breakfast of his life to the point where he was still thinking about it during the game.
Dena would call out the score "A million to 3" as she would dive for the ball in her what used to be white shorts and all while laughing.
One thing is for certain, team I Rack knows how to have fun and they are not afraid to show it! Because of this, they easily get the Team of the Week Award. Congratulations and continue to bring the good times!
Hanna vs Nicole. Many say that we have a Hollywood celebrity amongst us.
Hanna Eggert from Bumbin' Uglies has similarities with the actress from Charles in Charge, Nicole Eggert. You would thing a celebrity like Hanna would be living the dream in Hollywood, but instead she is out her in Portland enjoying the life in sand with Underdog Volleyball.
One thing is for certain, during game play, Hannah is all about the smiles and having a good time. She is out there hitting every ball that comes her way and when she doesn't, she gives the ball a mad stare down as to intimidate it.
Hannah is always smiling and just enjoying the sand court. It is pretty certain that if the Hannah vs Nicole ever happened on the volleyball court, Hannah would dominate without even breaking a sweat.
Either way, because of her smile and amazing serves we give Hannah Eggert the Player of the Week Award, Congratulations!
This week at Gabriel Park it was a hot one. One player this week stood out above the crowd with her endless humor. Kylie Fonteno was bringing sassy back after nearly every play. There is no doubt that she was in the heads of the opposite team.
As her fellow teammates put out great efforts Kylie rewarded them with praise and humor. "Got your knees dirty. That's what I like to see!" When going after balls hit out of bounds she decided to play Bay Watch and run in slow motion "Slow motion running, I'm in your head"...then comes the serve..."Oh wait when the ball comes slow motion doesn't work I have to go fast motion".
Congratulations Kylie for a great week, and a ton of laughs.
Emily Luckman didn't drive all the way from Vancouver to play volleyball for nothing. She made a commitment to her team and she showed her dedication.
Apparently all roads were closed having to take detour after detour for Emily to get out to the park. When she got there, she was all about business wanting to play. When she played her games, Emily beasted at the net, but with an uncommon method.
Emily measuring only 5'2" she built a small mound on which to stand on to make her look more intimidating. Every time she would rotate to the net, she kept adding to the mound. It kept getting bigger and bigger as she stated with a smile on her face "By the end of the game I will have it 5 feet tall."
All this creativity, didn't intimidate one player as he spiked it hot! Emily was right there for the block but couldn't reach it in time as she looks down at her creation saying "......it wasn't big enough!"
Big mound or small mound, Emily deserves the Player of the Week Award for her smiles and good times on the court. Congratulations!
This week instead of just one payer I'd like to recognize a team of the week with I Rack. These players were awesome, they came out early, had a great time, and motivated the other players with their tunes! I mean who doesn't think of that epic movie moment when Kenny Loggins introduced us to a little game called beach volleyball. Thank you to everyone who was "playin' with the boys" and thank you I Rack for the sweet tunes!
This week's player of the week goes to Katie from the team Four Play. Katie played an awesome game this weekend. She's like a timex, takes a lickin' and just keeps tickin'. Even after a mean dive to save the ball and getting the wind knocked out of her Katie continued to bring her all. Even Kenny Loggins would be proud! Congratulations Katie on an awesome week of volleyball and a stamina that just won't quit, you deserve it Player of the Week!
