Nathan started off his summer right, kickball underdog style in NoPo. He was backed by upbeat thunder bears and showing his support for them too. Coaching at 3rd and from behind the plate, while giving out chest bumps between innings. Nice teamwork and spirit.
Great game played by both teams.
Game 1 double header for 3rd base with your mom, Justin started out the game/season right: on fire. He brought his mojo and hustle for both matches, hustle from center field to stop'em from gettin to 3rd with his mom.
Twice he chased and pegged from the outfield.
Great playing, keep laughing and having fun, even if it is with my mom.
Monday night at Kenton and the drunken kelseys got off to a scoring start against the case of the Mondays. Although case of the Mondays might have started slow, they brought it together at the end, playing D and scoring runs.
Kevin leading the way with an unassisted double play and getting himself on base. Nice work and great play by both sides. Happy Monday
Ariel Whitacer was a solid teammate and player the whole game, but her true moment of glory came in the 7th inning when she ran up the hill deep into foul territory, fighting both time and gravity as she stretched her arm out to great lengths to initiate what might have also been considered an attempt at juggling. The ball bounced off her hand once, twice, and one more time before she finally managed to squash its life essence and capture the out.
Justin Spriggs
Chatty Catcher
Coming up to bat has never been so fun! Whether standing, stretching, blowing his noise maker, fixing his birthday hat or pulling his shirt up to show off his "abs" Mr. Spriggs made sure every batter was having a good time. Not only did Justin entertain but he advised on strategies and even handed out gifts for opposing runners as the passed home, including what may have been the smoothest set-up for a nice date at a coffee shop... "I'm there around 3pm," he said as one of Kick and Go's female players crossed home and grabbed the free coffee card he had placed down in front of the base. Well played Spriggs!
No doubt about it, Michelle T, aka "White Lightning", came to play. She drove in, like, 50 RBIs. Don't ask me how that's possible when her team only scored 15 runs. It just is.
Not only was it Maggie's birthday tonight, but she was a real freak of nature on the diamond. Kick after kick and catch after catch...Maggie was all over the place! Great job Maggie - now go get some birthday beers!!!
Skip Nasty brought the nasty on Monday night at Peninsula Park. Not only did he blast a majestic home run, but it was his birthday....and well, if you can't get player of the week on your birthday, when can you? Great job Skip! Now go continue the nasty for the rest of your birthday!
3rd Base With Your Mom forfeited to Kick and go naked.
Double Headers
Freaks of Nature
Corinna Scott Brings Sportsmanship, Spirit, and Face-Paint!
Thunder Bears
Corinna Smith was an integral member of her team, providing athleticism, sportsmanship, spirit and smiles to her teammates through her team's game tonight at Peninsular Park. As if these things weren't enough, she also brought face-paint that she used to adorn her kicking comrades! By time the game was over, it was hard to find a member of Thunder Bears that wasn't accentuated by Corinna. Corinna and her team brought flair and style to an already great game. Keep up the style!
The day was beautiful, the game was competitive and this play was amazing. John came up with runners on 1st & 2nd and only 1 out. He drilled a line drive at second base where his teammate was standing. Despite the runner at 2nd ducking the ball found its way to drill the runner for an out.
The ball must have had a homing device as it curved so dramticly that I doubt it could be duplicated.
The Drunken Kelseys came with a theme, Luau night at Peninsula Park. Everyone came in either a Hawaiian Shirt or a grass skirt. Some were even brave enough to go bikini out in the field.
This team displayed a great amount of team spirt and team cohesiveness. It was great to watch this team showing up in a theme!
Ashley and her team Ruby Death Squad bring spirit galore to their games, consistently being a great team to watch and play kickball with. One of the quirks of their team that makes them great is every week they come dressed in different themed outfits. Zombies, neon, and even country western have all been included as team endeavors. This week Ashley came in full cowgirl garb, shouting encouragement and cheer for her team throughout the whole game. Ashley and her teammates bring excitement and fun to the game at the same time, and are a pleasure to have in Underdog!
Toxic Sweatball and his team win their way into the finals!
3rd Base With Your Mom
Brian Conley, referred to as Toxic Sweatball by his teammates, was in fact a sweatball by the end of his double header tonight. Brian and his team played with only 8 brave souls on the field, a death sentence for most teams in the playoffs. This did not scare Brian or his teammates on 3rd Base With Your Mom, and they played two great games to secure a spot in the finals. Great job Brian and great job 3rd Base With Your Mom! Keep bringing the kicks and the fun!
Johnny Holliday is a proud member of Ruby Death Squad, and proud for a reason. Ruby Death Squad is proclaimed by their adversaries as "the funnest team we play", and for good reason! This week the team came dressed as jungle cats and made the night fun for both teams with cheer and spirit. However, Ruby Death Squad also should be proud to have Johnny Holliday, the man with an arm that would put a civil war artillery cannon to shame! Johnny was a great athlete on the field providing many key outs for the excitable Ruby Death Squad, but did it too with an air of grace and sportsmanship galore. Great job Johnny and the Ruby Death Squad, see you in the next round of playoffs!
This week saw many exciting plays, but perhaps the most exciting was during the semi-final match between Friends of the Devil and Peg You in the Head. This mash-up saw two great teams play a close game, with plenty of excitement and action. One scene of particular intensity occurred when a player from Peg You in the Head was caught in a pickle situation between 3rd base and home. After a couple throws back and forth, an attempt to hit the player with the ball was missed and the ball went towards 3rd base as the runner ran home. Scott had fallen to the ground but was not going to let this stop him, and throw the ball over his head down the base line towards home plate. The ball had some speed and managed to clip the player in the back legs on his final strides into home. Scott is Underdogger of the week for his sweet moves from anywhere on the field!
Verity Kent was a menacing sight to behold on the kickball diamond.... until she started running. After that the sight of her became a blur of speed. Kick after kick Verity speedily took her bases, making it look so easy that she could have walked if she wanted to. Great job out there on the field, and congrats on being the champs this season!
