Just like Ari from the show Entourage, Garrett Skjelstad from team Diggin' Deep strives to be like him.
Garret showed up to the opening day of Summer Volleyball at Oregon Park wearing his stunna shades and his trusty phone in his hand.
Garrett didn't start the game because he was in an important conference trying to book Justin Bieber to perform at his own birthday party. Once he got off the phone, he entered the game, but was still on standby playing with phone in hand.
Off and on during game play, Garrett would get phone calls from agents and managers, but this didn't stop him from playing. Phone up against his ear with a clear vision through his shades, Garrett went from a nice guy that is fun and easy going to Mr. Hollywood, demanding for attention. On the phone, you would hear him say ".....Get me Bieber now!"
On the phone he is Mr. Hollywood, but off the phone he is a fun-junkie and likes to involve everyone in his fun. For this reason, Garrett gets the Player of the Week. Congratulations!
With great power comes great responsibility. Because of these great words team Indy_Won nominated the only possible player that can hold that responsibility.
Liz Eslinger stepped up and became the captain of the team for many different reasons. Aside from the ability to handle that power, she took her team by the horns and lead them by example. She was sliding all over the place digging balls and cheering everyone on.
Despite their loss, Liz remained positive with great words of inspiration like "Here we go team......We got this!"
To top it all off, she showed her kindness and sportsmanship with a big smile and congratulating everyone. If Liz were a superhero, she would be The Flying Aviator....always swooping in for a good time. Congratulations Liz, you are this weeks Player of the week and a great superhero!
It started like any other Monday on the volleyball courts for Imminent Domain. Before they stepped up to play, they brought some drinks with them to loosen up and a simple crack of the neck and they were ready to play.
Team Imminent Domain quickly fell behind, but that didn't bother them. They all played like they were having fun. Laughing when they would hit their own teammates with the ball and hustling all over the place. This team was having a good time as if they were in a good ole fashion family BBQ.
In the 3rd game, they were already down 2 games, but this time it was different, Imminent Domain re-grouped for their final strategy over a quick drink and they played with nothing to lose. When the score reached 20-7 in their favor, you could see a glimmer in their eyes and eagerness to win.
They served the game point and won. Once that happened you could see confetti fall from the sky. Imminent Domain celebrated their 1st win like the we just reached the millennium. It was a crazy mini celebration at Oregon Park for a few moments. I'm pretty sure that if given enough time there would've been a parade going on. Anyway you put it, team Imminent Domain celebrates like no other and for that, they are the Team of the Week. Congratulations and keep the good times rolling!
This Monday at the park we saw something special. Something that we usually see on the basketball courts. It was so special that I am quite positive we will never see it again!
Team Not the Face was playing their game and scrambling all over the place for great rallies. Lindsay, standing a whole 5 feet tall, was serving up a storm and was amazing for anybody....not just her.
Liam was inspired by the upcoming basketball Olympic games and spiking the ball straight into the net all the time. But alas, Lindsay bumped the ball straight at Liam. He shrugged his shoulders out of instinct as to get out of the way. The ball hit him and flew over the net for a point.
It wasn't the ideal play, but it looked really amazing. Even though it was complete accidental, it was dubbed the 1st ever volleyball alley-oop. It is very rare that will never be converted again. Because of its providing this rare play both Lindsay and Liam get a Duo Player of the Week. Congratulations.
Congratulations to this week's Player of the Week Melanie G from Indy-Won -Indy #1! Mel G, popularly known as the 6th Spice Girl - Butt Kicking Spice - came ready to crush it at Oregon Park on Monday with her soul stealing serves and intimidating confidence. In defense of her excellent sportsmanship, Mel G was heard saying she must "give credit where credit is due" when a ball fell inches from her hands. This small defeat did not get put the Spice Girl down as she hustled to return balls and gave her opponents a run for their money with her monster serves. Way to go Melanie G!
This week's player of the week goes out to Oscar Arana from Imminent Domain. Oscar was having a great time this week. He was cracking jokes left and right, interacting with not only his team but ALL teams playing in the 7:30 timeslot.
The game got interrupted a couple of times with a rogue volleyball off the second court stopping play. Each time Oscar would joke back and for with the team that they were cramping his serving style now that he got one over the net! Luckily he was able to make that following serves as well.
In addition to his serving skills Oscar was king of the footwork. Each time there was a difficult ball to get Oscar simply stuck out his foot as a last ditch effort. Ironically 60% of the time this movement worked and the ball was back in the air to play!!
Congratulations Oscar to a great week of volleyball and a lot of fun on Monday night!
This week's player of the week is the standout Jarvis Schuckman from Just the Tip! What can we say he was both skilled to watch and hilarious at the same time. The two best qualities of a volleyball player.
Each time the ball approached him at the net hit team would shout "Kill, Kill" and he would Spike! Most of these went in the court. There was that one wayward spike "Who moved the court?" as it terrorizes the fans and basketball players alike.
Overall an impressive game, great skills, and laughs to boot. Thank you Jarvis for having a great time and sharing it with us on the court!
