Michelle Parrish
Michelle Parrish
NO JITTERS FOR THIS ROOKIE
Last week, team DKS had a bit of a rough time against the Thursday Night Lights yet DKS rookie Michelle Parrish's game wasn't hindered a bit and she still produced a few key grabs for her team. Even with Parrish's big efforts, DKS would go on to lose that game but our story doesn't end there.
That lost must have weighed heavy on the rookie's heart as Michelle showed up this Thursday Night and not only delivered another clutch performance but also helped her team break open a close first half game against a solid Jason's First Win squad.
In a game where interceptions fell out of the sky like Portland rain, Michelle knew that there was no room for rookie jitters and she had to catch every ball that came her way or die trying. The rookie knew she had to show her team last week was no fluke and she was reliable target in the clutch. Parrish once again put in the work and got it done as the final score read 42-22 in favor of the big DKS.
So Congrats to Michelle Parrish, your game is on the rise and you're our UNDERDOG THURSDAY NIGHT FLAG FOOTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK!

Charles "Chuck Norris" Ancheta
Charles "Chuck Norris" Ancheta
Sunset
Chuck Ancheta will never have a heart attack. His heart isn't foolish enough to attack him. Chuck Ancheta doesn't read books, he stares at the pages until they give him the information he wants. Chuck Ancheta even smashed a mirror over a black cat's head while standing under a ladder, then won the lottery. However, Chuck Ancheta can't play defense, apparently he's not allowed to.
With limited PT on defense (his team kicked him off the field) Chuck Ancheta had to make the best of his time on offense. Ancheta lined up under center and took every snap for the Sunset Squad Thursday night in their showdown against a tough DKS team.
In a Manning-style of play, Chuck took a "throw-first" policy with the ball and took many long shots down the field connecting with multiple receivers.
Even in the tight spots of the game, Ancheta never let his team or himself lose their cool. If DKS scored, Ancheta just found the endzone again. If Sunset caught a flag, he made up the yards.
When the clock ran out, Sunset was on top.
So Congrats to Chuck "Norris" Ancheta, for the man doesn't walk, the Earth moves under his feet and he's our UNDERDOG THURSDAY NIGHT FLAG FOOTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK!

Staying Alive
The (Wo)ManBearPigs lined up Thursday Night across from a Seymour Touchdowns team that has an arsenal of both defensive and offensive weapons. Not really considered the underdogs unless you refer to the League Standings, the (Wo)ManBearPigs did know that they had a long road ahead of them if they were going to Semi-finals next week. Especially if Seymour Touchdowns laid down a gigantic roadblock which is well within their capabilities.
From the start of the game, the BearPigs took it to their opponent knowing that they couldn't allow the Seymour squad to see much of anything, let alone any TDs of their own. By the end of the first half the BearPigs had built a 21-6 lead but with Seymour getting the ball at the start of the second half, they didn't rest too easy.
For the remainder of the game, both teams would blow up the scoreboard but the Seymour Touchdowns outscored the BearPigs in the second half to nearly erase the deficit as the game came down to a 2-point conversion in the final seconds.
First seed or sixth seed, no team wants to stand in their own endzone with a 2 point lead as the Seymour Touchdowns line up to settle the score. However, that was the reality the (Wo)ManBearPigs had to come to terms with. Pulling together and playing clean, the BearPigs stopped the Seymour Touchdowns on the conversion and would advance to the Semi-Final round next week at Rob Strasser Memorial.
So Congrats to the (Wo)ManBearPigs, our UNDERDOG THURSDAY NIGHT FLAG FOOTBALL TEAM OF THE WEEK!

PERFECT SEASON FOR THE LEAGUE CHAMPS!
No matter how much you win or how well you may play, the monkey on the back of an undefeated team can get quite heavy week-after-week. Playoffs are always challenging because a team has to be perfect on the day. If you're in-it-to-win-it, you have to be flawless. Sometimes being the undefeated favorite can make you an unlikely Underdog for not only are you standing nose-to-nose with an opponent with their own agenda but you're also facing the pressure of keeping a streak intact.
That was the debacle the Sunset Team was facing when they showed up to play Thursday night. With a bunch of wins and only a few of those wins coming in the form of close games, this team had to answer some questions about how they play when they can't just steamroll their opponents on their way into the win column.
Their Semi-final game against the Perfect Spirals was a close battle in the first half but Sunset picked up momentum in the second half to blow the score open on their way to a comfortable win. However, the finals game would be much different.
As they lined up against the Thursday Night Lights squad in the finals, Sunset almost got a little more than they bargained for.
All season the Sunset offense showed they were more than capable of executing their offensive game plan against any opponent. If they wanted to go with the long ball, no problem. If they wanted to chew up the clock and play a short game, it wasn't a thang. Offensively they did what they wanted when they wanted to do it. Defensively it wasn't much different. They turned most of the leagues QBs into Brett Favre pick-factories, not to mention it can get quite dangerous when the Sunset Secondary gets their hands on the ball. It's a known fact, when a Sunset defender pulls one out of the sky, he/she sniffs out the endzone like a bloodhound.
Even so, the Thursday Night Lights showed up ready to rumble and unwilling to just watch Sunset just be handed the Champ bands. The game was an offensive shootout. It wasn't until early into the second half that Sunset began to cool down and couldn't serve up their touchdowns as quickly and effortlessly as they were used to. As Thursday Night Lights began to close the gap on the scoreboard it seemed that Sunset might unfortunately see their first loss of the season, in the last and final game. As much as the Thursday Night Lights could feel that Sunset was slowing down, the Sunset squad would not be denied. With a new found sense of urgency, the Sunset offense was reborn in the last ten minutes of the game and they put together what would the final and winning touchdown drive.
So here's to Sunset, you played flawless all season and it was apparent you had a lot of fun as a team doing it. You were all able to come together when it mattered most and you pulled it off in the end. Congrats, you are the THURSDAY NIGHT FALL LEAGUE FLAG FOOTBALL CHAMPS!
