Sensei's Words
Sensei's Words
A dream is reality
The famous words made popular by the Cobra Kai Sensei "Sweep the leg" has became so popular that a group of Futsal players have adopted the quote as their team name.
Sweep the Leg lead by Alia Adams and rounded up her friends to make the epic words come true. She picked up Walt as the brick wall of a keeper that gobbles up every ball that goes near him.
A returning player to the team in Adam who is known to mesmerize his opponents by showing off his chops and smile as he demonstrates his leg power when he kicks the ball. Another returning player in Carlos who is known as the skillful player that has played every position possible in futsal.
One thing is for certain, Alia gathers up great people who are proven to be great Underdogers to make her dream come true....because of this team Sweep the Leg gets the Team of the Week Award. Congratulations and keep listening to the Cobra Kai.

Kill them...
Kill them...
with kindness!
Here at Underdog we certainly do promote a competitive game. The idea that someone ends up with a win is an important component to what we do. However, it is the style in which you go about this that truly defines whether you are Underdog material.

Ms. Hebbeler proved not only to us but to the other team that she may be the nicest player in the league. Her style fits Underdog to a t. In most sports leagues, usually when there is a bit of a bump or collision you may see some squabbling or a stink eye. Not here. Not Jennifer. Her polite nature, kind words, and apologies throughout the match warranted compliments from the other team during the run of play. As the ball rolled out of play a Bazi opponent turned to Jenn and told her that she was just the nicest person. It is this type of moment that really defines the league and one that we hope we will continue to see throughout this season.

Better yet, when she was told that she won the coveted POTW award for this very reason her response (with a smile) was a simple, "Well it is just a game, right?"

We are proud to have you as part of Underdog Futsal Jennifer!

The coolest...
The coolest...
Idea to stay cool
Her gesture may have gone unnoticed in sight and mind but all of our bodies felt the benefit of Monica's very smart idea.

At half time of her game Ms. Swartzlander (very cool last name by the way), came up to the ref and mentioned it being extremely warm. Not only that... she had the vision to open the doors to allow a cross breeze in. Her request was met with some hesitancy as we always want to make sure to respect the facility but after a quick inquiry and go ahead form the powers that be the doors were flung open.

The rest of the night Underdog Futsal was cooled by the slight breeze of the spring evening. Monica deserves a big thank you and a POTW honor for her very cool idea (pun intended).

Throw Your Hands Up
Throw Your Hands Up
For safety
Ellen is known for her goal scoring prowess. She is a smart player who can create space, shut down attacks and helps to keep her team in games. However, more importantly, Ellen is smart about safety.

Come on now guys, we can all admit that here at UD Futsal, we can sometimes get a little bunched up. Five feet can all start kicking at the ball and some ankles can be knocked.

Well, it is time we all adopt the new patented throw your hands up move from Ellen. It is a simple strategy that allows her to get out of trouble and avoid the possibility of injury almost every time. Now it may not be suitable for a Champions League final but for a fun night of midweek Futsal it really works wonders.

Simple as this. Work hard to try and gain possession with clean defense but if things get a little harry (ooops I mean hairy), and too many players start all going for the same ball, throw your hands up and slowly vacate the area. We saw it multiple times from her and a few times it actually created space for her team to regain possession.

Now maybe we are having a little fun with this but honestly we do appreciate Ellen and all of you for keeping it clean, fun and friendly. That is what it is all about! Throw your hands up for safety!

Cemented Legend
Cemented Legend
Ture Underdog
Although The Big Green rocks out the purple shirts, they are known for The Big Green just like the Jolly Green Giant is known for his stature. This is a great team with amazing precision passing and excellent game play.
Although they are a great team, the thing that sets them apart from everyone else is their attitude and great sportsmanship. After the final whistle is blown, every member of the team walks up to the opposing players to congratulate them on a game well played. Not only this, but they constantly have smiles on their faces and are very easy going players. Their attitudes are very contagious that carries on to the entire league.
The Big Green will forever be known as true Underdog players as they have cemented their legend on to everyone else. For that reason, we give them The Team of the Week Award. Congratulations!

A keeper who can keep...
A keeper who can keep...
it light!
Tim played in goal in the second half of a loss for his squad. It was a back and forth second half with both teams scoring a few goals. A half that could quickly stress out a player... get them on edge.

Not Tim! It was the exact opposite for him as he playfully joked around with his teammates, smiled the whole time and cracked wise with anyone who would listen. He even poked fun at those uber competitive types by sarcastically screaming at his teammates after every goal allowed, ending each with a huge laugh. It was something that everyone was feeding off of.

It is this type of attitude that makes our league fun and keeps everyone happy. To be able to have fun in any situation and make the most of it is something that every one could learn from and not just in terms of Underdog Futsal but in life too. So thanks Tim! You did a great job of tickling our funny bone and keeping a smile on our faces!

Risks limbs and lungs
Ingrid could be heard throughout the gym coughing as she pushed herself through three games on her way to a championship. Playing for her Indy squad who on this night were short players she pushed herself to the limit.

At one point before starting what would be a marathon overtime session in her second match Ms. Haugaard ran over to the side to grab water. Her thirst was only quenched for a moment after the fatigue set back in and she leaned forward putting her arms on her legs. Breathing heavily Ingrid lifted herself back up and helped to carry her team past the semifinal stage.

With her light grey shirt turned dark Ingrid powered through the rest of the night and collapsed to the floor when it was all done. It was a show of true Underdog spirit and we wanted to make sure she knew we noticed. Congrats to her and her Indy squad on a great season and a big championship run.

One a side note... Thanks to all who played Underdog Futsal this season! It was a blast!
