Opening day at Alberta Park...an evening many of the players have been looking forward to for months. The first game between Sons of Pitches and No Glove promised to be a highly competitive game on paper...both teams came out swinging and didn't disappoint the fans who cheered them on from the bleachers.
Leading the charge for No Glove was Brad Sanville, first in the lineup who set the tone for the rest of his team with timely hit after hit. Tons of runs were necessary to win this barn burner of a game...the skills Brad displayed on the field lead his team to a nail biting 22-21 victory.
Calculator and comfortable cleats required...this season looks to have plenty of offense and all the makings of a great season for Underdog softball.
In hard-fought game by both teams that were fairly evenly matched, Colin did his best to keep his team in high spirits! He seemed to always be in the right place and took advantage of the spotlight whenever possible. A multi-run home run, diving catch and a highlight worthy double play with the throw-out at 2nd base made this one night to remember!
On an evening where the dirt infield kept everyone on their toes, Shawn Gilmore of team The Bunt for Red October showcased his balancing skills in a highly contested game vs. team No Glove. As the sun began to set in the later innings, Shawn's defensive skills shown bright at 3rd base, along with his neon shoelaces that couldn't be missed by players and fans alike. A bomb to left field in the bottom of the 5th put his team up for good, capping off a stellar all around game by the man holding down the hot corner.
With plenty of hits coming off the bats of team Honey Nut Ichiros this evening, Cascade Sub-Coolers found out quickly their defensive skills would be tested throughout the 6:00PM game at Alberta Park. Shining bright for Cascade Sub-Coolers was Ammy Hesse, a 2nd baseman whose nifty footwork & quick glove made the other team wonder if hitting to the right side of the infield was the best of game plans. A sweet snag late in the game on a line drive was appreciated by all who came out for a great night of Underdog softball.
The 7:30 game at Alberta Park under a sun-drenched field featured Kari Hansen of Sons of Pitches...team captain, vocal leader and at times softball 101 instructor all wrapped up into one. Her fielding skills were on display all game, making solid play after solid play either in the infield or chasing down a pop fly from behind the plate. Yet her ability to laugh at herself and with her teammates is what made Alberta Park a great place to be for Underdog softball on Tuesday night.
A nail biting finish during the night cap game between Bunt for Red October and Honey Nut Ichiros featured Justin Smith, a player known around the league as a man who can hit the ball a mile or two if given the opportunity. With his team trailing by one with two on in the bottom of the 7th, Justin dug into the batter's box and launch a moonshot into orbit, flying over the left fielder's head and propelling his team to a exciting victory over a quality opponent. A stellar performance from a guy who knows softball.
Player of the week is an understatement!!! Meghan tore up the field like a one woman show making big plays and even bigger bats! The show didn't go unseen as there was a full house of fans who made several inspiring comments about Meghan's skill and play.
Cascade Sub-Coolers, Honey Nut Ichiros, Where my pitches at?, Wood, leather, stitch, kill
Nic
Sons of Pitches
We are spotlighting Nic who was a maniac tonight a party all by himself. He was an offense and a defensive force. If that wasn't enough, he comes with his own level of happiness and turns up everyone's around him...He is a bundle of joy waiting to happen on someone...I loved it. Super cheerleader for his team.. You go boy
A finer player has not played this game on this field at this time. "this guy is on fiya" If he were older and not so sweet we would not have this blurb about him. The guy is scary fast, he may catch the roadrunner he's so fast. He did almost run himself into the backstop beating out a throw that was not coming. There was no stopping this guy he would hit little dribblers and get on, the guy is fast as light...Captain America look out, Superman move over Mighty Mouse just stop Carson has just entered and left the building before you even got started..(it just got real) Did I mention he is the sweetest guy to play the game. What a complete doll. Great game C-man

Lindsay Williams
Honey Nut Ichiros
Hit it, rip it, knock it around, she drove in runs, she defended for her team making outstanding plays she carried her team on her back and her back never gave out. When the team needed a lil spark she came through with the offense to keep the rally going. When the defense began to falter, she made the big play to quell fury inning for their opponent's momentum. And all this she did with a smile on her face she is truly a Honey Nut Ichiro. (I don't know what that is but she is super cool with a great smile)
Great job Lindsay amazing season!
