The captain of an Indy team has a lot of responsibility- setting the lineups, explaining the rules, wrangling the players. Kelly shows up week-in and week-out to keep her team's morale high and make sure everyone's having fun.
This week, though, she and her team took it to a new level. They had a long double-header against two talented teams and, in their first game, gave up a sixth-inning lead to take a heartbreaking loss. That's the kind of thing that can deflate a team and a captain.
Not Kelly, though. She ran her teams through the cheers and through the warmups (which included popcorn and cheese crackers) and came back out to play. Well-placed bunts and close slides at second gave her team a hard-fought victory in a tight, defensive game.
