-There was some great friendly pre-game banter. Everyone was ready to have a good time, but game faces were definitely on! No one wanted tonight to be the last gathering so competing for the pizza party was serious business. There was a lot of great saves and sand in the face tonight. Tonight was all about making history -- the first Sand Volleyball Champs!
-The final four was well deserved with Inappropriate Shock taking on Swingers on Court 1 and Funky Flamingos versus Sandy Cracks on Court 2. Both matches were battles to get to the championship game. The Swingers came out to an early lead against Shock taking game one. Shock wasn't going to go down with a fight as they battled for game 2, but Drew's intensity was too much for Shock as the Swingers snagged game 3. The Flamingos and Cracks were neck and neck for both games. There were some great saves and hustle, but the Flamingos remained calm and clinched the match in 2 games.
-This all means that the Flamingos and Swingers were heading to the Championship game. But definitely worth noting is the battle for 3rd place. Shock had had a taste of victory taking game 2 against the Swingers and they wanted that feeling again. Cracks came out strong, but injury made it hard for the team to recover. Shocks communication and blocks helped them claim their 3 place honors!!!
-The Flamingos and Swingers had matched up before and had a blast playing against one another. Their skill level was equal and they both played hard. In regular season the Swingers prevailed so the Flamnigos had something to prove. The Flamingos came out to an early 6-0 lead rattling the Swingers. Catherine was trying to rally the Swingers making sure their heads were on straight. Casey helped them come back putting the heat on with her serves, but the Flamingos were returning the heat with Matheius and Nick's kills. Before the Swingers knew it game 1 was snatched up by the Flamingos. Flamingos had amazing execution with Janet and Danielle passing everything that came their way. The Swingers had Drew as their secret weapon with quick hits, but the Flamingos were answering. Swingers were feeling the defeat of game one, they were not able to gain back their grove as the Flamingos powered the ball. Matthias put a sweet ending to night as he found the hole and killed the ball for match winning point knocking the Swingers from the number one spot, way to go Underdogs! Thanks for a great season everyone, Congratulations Funky Flamingos!
