Summer Co-ed Softcore/Rookie Kickball at King School Park Sundays

Alexis stepped up for her team and creamed a deep, deep ball to outfield. By the time the ball landed, she was just about home, right behind the RBI she sent in. Great homerun Alexis and great victory.

In the midst of a super-competitive close game, Nick Liljedahl of the 'Smurfs kicked a towering fly ball to center field that looked to be a certain home run ... however, the force of this kick threw his white-framed sunglasses off his head somewhere into the grass near home plate. Rather than run, Nick searched the grass for several seconds and managed to locate said sunglasses. Then he set off around the basepaths, his eyes protected from harmful UV rays, and STILL managed to turn his kick into a home run. For scoring in style, Nick is our Player of the Week. Congrats!

It was a strange scene Sunday evening at King School Park, when Victorious Secret played Sit on My Base in a well-played scrimmage that went extra innings. Sit on My Base were a player or two short, so Gerrit Wood volunteered to switch sides and help them out. He immediately made it clear he was going to give 100% for his new squad, making several key plays at third and coaching his new teammates about where to kick the ball. In perhaps the single oddest moment of Underdog Kickball history, with one out and runners at first and second in the bottom of the seventh inning, one of his VS teammates kicked a line drive at him, which he strategically dropped, then tagged the runner out who was advancing from second, before throwing out the batter at first for an inning-ending double play. Immediately recognizing that his "real" teammates weren't going to take too well to such strategems, Gerrit showed some serious class and offered to give back an out, which his VS teammates ultimately decided not to take. For competing extra hard for his "new" team, and showing such class, Gerrit was unquestionably our player of the week.

Out in left field, Charlie Baumann made his present felt for the Multiple Scoregasms all season long, but he really pulled out all the stops in the playoffs. He was the proverbial "black hole," gobbling up any ball hit his way, and on top of that, he was a vocal leader for his squad, providing all sorts of crazy energy between innings as he sprinted on and off the field, not to mention his unique brand of hustle on the basepaths. For setting the tone, and delivering when the game was on the line, Charlie is our final player of the week. Congrats!
