Sets on Sets on Sets Opening Day on Fire
Sets on Sets on Sets (SOSOS) - the "so-sos"? blew the roof off of Opening Day at St. Charles on Thursday night. Led by this week's firecracker POTW, Krisa Kahmann, SOSOS battled a fiercely competitive crew in Sets on the Beach, with Krista brilliantly playing any position on court to perfection. She dove, she bumped, she assisted, she served, she BLOCKED so effectively that it was hard to keep track of all the amazing things she did to score victory for SOSOS by a 2-1 game margin. What we really admired and appreciated was her tenacity on defense as it didn't matter at all where the ball went, Krista followed and returned or set. Way to start off the fall indoor season with bringing your very best - congrats Krista!

We Will Win Digly Gets a Great Assist by Flawless Serving
After missing Week 1 with a bye, We Will Win Digly came more than ready to start their fall season at St. Charlie's. And what a match they played behind Sophie Hatch's magical serving technique. Without any faults or errors, she had an incredible number of points with her nifty one-armed serves. She's so quick with the toss and punch and the ball barely skims over the net which makes it tricky for defensive returns. The Diglys came out with guns blazing by defeating Indy #38 three games to zero. Cheered on by Sophie's adorable baby son, Mama showed the little guy her stuff not only with service but great attacking moves. Her one-armed style was key in a deciding win for the Diglys and a great way to launch their season.

Minions Take Three with Kills Galore
The Minions not only have a knack for great teamwork, but they have Scott Schaus on their side to make sure the defense pays when he's working the net. Scott has wondrous get up ability and he uses it to perfection with powerful slams across the net which opponents Sets on Sets on Sets had difficulty returning. Scott uses both his vertical mobility and cool wind up motion to put the defense on skates - so much so that Minions came out on top with a 3-0 game win for the match. And he can score from the service line with a few aces landed in just the right spot. Get up and serve up, Scott!

We Will Win Digly's Erik Keeps Them Covered
This week's POTW is We Will Win Digly's Jack-of-All-Trades guy, Erik Everson. The master of knowing the right place at the right time and skillfully putting a body part in play whenever necessary. Erik uses every possible movement to make a play but it's always very calculated with positive results. We Will Win Digly put up a good and competitive fight in Thursday Midcore at St. Charles vs. Sets on Sets on Sets aided defensively by Erik Is Everywhere's outstanding play. He saved so many rallies, it made our heads spin to count them all. After losing the first two sets, the Diglys roared back behind Erik's huge net play and won by a 25-15 margin. So watch where your going and get out of the way, 'cause Erik is definitely Everywhere!

All About That Ace
In a marathon first game that seemed to go almost 30 minutes, All About That Ace faced Minions in a duel to the finish. And All About That Ace's Dan Peterson was directly involved in much of the battle that finished with a 33-31 point win for the Minions. Dan was on point (no pun intended) with serious blocks at net, one-armed saves and impeccable service. Rock-solid defense was the key to his strategy and inspired his teammates to compete just as hard. All About the Ace took game 3 behind Dan's service points and steady play. Way to pace yourself in the marathon, Dan!

Andrea Ferreiro Lights Up the Court With Her Play and Smile
Sets on the Beach
Sets on the Beach only had four on the floor on Thursday night at St. Charles, but if Andrea Ferreiro is one of those players, then you know she brings the energy to make up for two more people! Andrea and the Sets are longtime USL teammates and know each other's style very well. As the team captain, Andrea gets her squad energized with her constant smile and infectious competitiveness. Rarely one to fault on service, she was on fire with forceful offense. In the backcourt, Andrea showed off a few clever ups and her setting was accurate for teammates Zach, Linda and Daniel. Thanks to Andrea for brightening up the gym on a dark and rainy night!

Hallie Hayden had a huge night for The Minions with incredible serving and hitting. Mark Omaswa Has Tips on How to Be Effective at Net
Mark Omaswa Has Tips on How to Be Effective at Net
Sets on Fire
Mark Omaswa has mastered the net game and showed his stuff at St. Charles on Thursday night in a playoff match vs. Minions. In an absolutely flawless performance, Mark took charge at front court and made sure his hands were ready to tip at every opportunity. Tips aren't all Mark has to offer while being at the front - he's also fantastic with having the ups to smash kills and put up blocks. His team Sets on Fire were firing on all cylinders as they battled to advance in the playoffs behind Mark's excellent defense. While Sets on Fire missed out on the opportunity to move ahead in the bracket, Mark didn't miss a beat in his performance.

Kevin Tracy
Kevin Tracy
He's Everywhere!!!
Kevin Tracy of Cathy and the Jugheads can really do it all! There were many times when a ball was thought to be lost and then Kevin came flying from out of nowhere to save the play. Sacrificing body, but never spirit, Kevin took his team to another level in the playoffs tonight. Along with all the saves, Kevin's hits and serves were just as spectacular. Forceful and sinking, they left the competition with their heads spinning. He backs up his team and keeps the competition on their toes. A great all around player to watch. Way to go Kevin!!!!
