Notes

First Place

Summer Co-ed Softball at Irving Park Sundays

A long thrilling season came to end Sunday as the Townies beat top seeded Pabst Smear in the Semi-finals and then held on in a tightly contested battle against Soup-a-Stars. The final score of 18-13 was typical of all the very close and well played games on Sunday.
It was nip and tuck all day for Soup-a-Stars, winning their first two games by a total of three runs.
Both teams were lead by quality pitchers. John"SilverTips"Paul was good as gold all day putting together 27 quality innings. He struck out more than a few people on his way to three well earned victories. For the Stars Andy Burkamp keep the games close while his teams got the bats warm.
On the offensive side Matt Thames hit everything in site outta site, surely leading the Townies in multiple offensive categories on the day. Also playing a large part was Alicia Mickes who had many timely hits and played a sweet left field. Her catches and strong, accurate arm keep opposing players off the bases and from advancing on them.
All in All a great day with too many nifty catches and hard hit balls to write about in one short piece.

POTW: Alicia Mickes

Townies

Alicia was key all day. Hitting in the middle of the line-up she had many run producing hits and game changing hits. She kept the momentum going each at bat. Her defense also changed games. By keeping the ball in front of her, catching everything in site and making good throws she helped to eliminate scoring opportunities for all the other teams.
