Notes

First Place

Summer Co-Ed Softball at Irving Park Sundays

The Skull Crushers lost three games all regular season. As fate would have it, they would need to play all three of those teams in the playoffs in order to win the championship.

They started off the playoff gauntlet against the Portland Webfoots. They had suffered a close one run loss back in mid-July. This time, they were able to turn the tables and pick up a 10-8 win.

In the semi-finals, they matched up against #1 seed Falco's Army. They had met way back on opening day where Falco's picked up a 18-11 win. The Skull Crushers jumped ahead early this time. They would put up nine runs in the top of the first inning and put up a second nine-spot in the third in building a 21-2 lead that they would never relinquish.

In the championship game, they went up against The Syndicate. Two weeks ago, The Syndicate had pulled out a comeback win in the seventh inning. This game looked very similar to the first. the Skull Crushers put up five in the first and two in the second. Their offense sputtered in for the next four innings though. The Syndicate made their move though, putting up 4 runs to bring the score within 2 going into the 7th. After the Skull Crushers gave themselves 3 insurance runs in the top of the inning, The Syndicate came back. A couple of defensive lapses got the Syndicate to within one run with a runner on third base and two outs. The next pitch was hit to shallow center when the CF had been playing back. He sprinted in and made a great diving catch for third out and the championship.

Sunday, August 11

Tye L.

Skull Crushers

With the game on the line in the bottom of the seventh inning and two outs, Tye made an amazing and game-ending catch in center field, fully laying out to make the catch to clinch the game and the championship.
