Ever keeping the VB game fresh, Julie Freeman brought a new service style to the Softcore League Wednesday night at Tubman. Notorious D.I.G was stoked to have Julie sub because her service method resulted in numerous points and a few aces. You see, Julie starts her service motion in a crouch similar to a bowler, with her knees practically on the floor. From this low position, she's able to transfer her weight forward to propel the hit with a rocket shot straight out of a cannon and with fantastic precision. With Julie's missile service, Notorious D.IG. was able to make it a clean sweep match vs. Fresh Hops. Let's hope her knees survive this amazing service form!
With only 4 players to spread the court, Notorious D.I.G. had to do some digging deep of their abilities to figure out a strategy for success at Tubman on Wednesday night. Enter Matt Browning. Matt appears as though he's seen some time on the basketball floor as his height and agility (not to mention shooting ability between games) easily lend to the game of volleyball. Matt can really get air with his service, but where his presence is really felt is at net, where he does this crazy behind the back-over-the-shoulder flip/tip over the net. Even though his back is to his opponent, the no-look tip always lands with a direct hit. Super hard to place the ball that way, but Matt is a pro. Thanks to this originality, Notorious D.I.G. was able to pull out first and second sets in the match, but was edged by the slightest of margins by The Strays in the third, 25-23. Only someone with his stature could pull off the no-look behind the back tip and that's why Matt Browning is awarded POTW!
Seth Engelhard has no fear of the floor or flying. He's always ready to spring into action to perform whether going to extreme out of bounds for a save or to gracefully slide across the hardwood full body for an assist. Fellow (Decent) players and opponents often find their eyes popping while observing Seth's cool moves and one particular swing/slide save in the second set vs. Notorious D.I.GF at Wednesday's game at Tubman brought a thunderous roar from the crowd. While the Decent Fellows weren't able to secure a win in the match, they powered through with determination and passion spurred by the awesome tenacity of Seth!

Mark Saragin is a BEAST!
Notorious D.I.G
Stepping in as Wednesday night's Super Super Sub, Mark Saragin took the Tubman Softcore league by storm as he joined his buds on Notorious D.I.G to assist in a sweep of Some Team. Maybe it's because we haven't seen Mark's moves before, but he totally blew it out of the gym with a fantastic all-around game. His service was both powerful, impeccable and accurate, his kill reach crazy good and we particularly were impressed with all the one-handed saves he managed to pull out of nowhere. Mark broke up a rather lengthy volley in the first set with a thunderous crush to mid that was particularly notable and that sealed the vote for POTW!
Todd is this week's Player of the Week! He was a key player in securing his team the 'W'. When he wasn't diving on the floor saving countless balls, he was playing the net like an imposing brick wall! Way to go Todd and team. Good luck in the playoffs!
With a keen sense of detail and athleticism, Joel Thompson of Decent Fellows keeps his eyes on the prize of perfection and victory. We don't know how he does it, but Joel always seems to be in the right place at the right time. Whether an incredible out of bounds save or service points at just the right time, he has a sixth sense of where he needs to be. Highlight of the night was a hard kill that landed just on the line to secure the win in the second set vs. Fresh Hops. Joel just goes about his business in a quiet way, but the results make a big impact, as Decent Fellows advanced in the playoffs to reach the semifinals next week. You go Joel!!
John Ciepiela of Notorious D.I.G. shows up to Tubman every Wednesday with one thing on his mind - victory and how to annoy teammate and captain Vanda Kong. But Vanda keeps it all in stride and with good humor so John has to go back to concentrating on how to win ball games. During Wednesday's championship game vs. Blundercats, he definitely had all cylinders on fire with great maneuvering around the court and some fierce ball movement. We were in awe of a couple cleanly placed tips for soft kills John tapped over net and his skills particularly came into play during the first set where points and volleys were exchanged within narrow margins for a time before Notorious D.I.G emerged with the victory. On to the second set where John managed to deliver precise setting and service along with sealing the championship and the USL coveted wristbands as reward. With his leadership and a great squad surrounding him, John's performance awarded him the last game of the season POTW!
