Wednesday Spring league 2011 at Friendly House got off to a great start. Spirits were high, game faces were on and the new team t-shirts were free of coffee and beer stains (for now). Ben Kocarnik of I'd hit that! had the eye of the tiger for both of their victories on opening night. The highlight of Ben's all around stellar play was an amazing catch made against The Flix. In the words of one of his teammates..."the best in between the legs catch ever!" Sportscenter now has another amazing play from Underdog Sports League to add to its Top 10 list.
Debbie Does Dodgeball had an excellent performance at the Friendly House Wednesday night. Leading the way was Josh Leslie and his dizzying array of moves. During one sequence Josh jumped over a thrown ball, dived towards the mid-line to grab the ball and accuractly fired a strike to end the game. Josh & DDD's night was filled with highlight worthy plays. Excellent week!
Dodgeball at the Friendly House is usually a very special occasion. Wednesday was even more special as we had Joshua Huber playing on his 40th birthday. Josh was his usual energetic self, motivating his team with humor and steady throws and catches. To cap off the night he even took a "birthday shot" in his groin for his team. What a team player! Happy 40th Josh!
Ruby was all over the court tonight but her shining moment came when she made the game winning catch to seal the victory in a very tightly contested match. This was Ruby's first game winning catch of her young and promising Dodgeball career.
If one was to go over game film of Dodgeball at the Friendly House on Wednesday night Nathalie Matson performance would vividly stand out. Her unorthodox fast pitch delivery immediately put opponents on their heels. Not only is the sheer velocity overwhelming, but the angle of the throw is very low usually connecting below the shin. But throwing is not the only aspect that stood out; she also made some very difficult catches which allowed her teammates to get back into the game. One of those teammates was "Catchmaster" Tyler Spencer who quoted his teammates performance as "unbelievable, her throws are two inches off the ground....amazing." Great week Ms. Matson!
Hertz Donut had a very strong showing Wednesday at the Friendly House. In their first game they took down the "Team Formerly Known As..." 5 to 2, most of the damage was done by Laura Grieser also known as "The Eliminator." Laura showed some supreme athleticsm dodging multiple throws and connecting on accurate long tosses. In the second match against the Ball Busters she also had a solid game, making some key catches and clutch throws including a winning shot to cut into a 3-0 deficit. Hertz eventually won two more games to even the match at 3-3. Impressive week Laura!
