Summer Co-Ed Softball at Irving Park Sundays

Selecting a player of the week can be difficult, but sometimes there are clues that make the selection easy. One such clue is when a player makes such a great play that the opposition stands and applauds. Another clue is when the winning team nominates a player from the other team as the player of the game because of their amazing play. This week both those clues pointed to Joshon. Joshon made such an incredible diving catch the umpire even exclaimed: "That's the best play I've ever seen out here." Joshon, playing shortstop, took off full speed running back for a ball destined to fall in front of the left fielder and made a fully extended leap (parallel to the ground) to catch the ball just before it hit the grass. Throw that in the mix with his stellar performance at the plate and consistent defensive prowess and Joshon is the clear choice for player of the week. Congratulations Joshon and the Up and Comings for a promising season of Softball!

Doesn't it always seem like the player whose dad is in the stands on father's day hits a home run or has a great game? Maybe that's just because ESPN reports on it, but ESPN reports on it because it's a heart warming story that makes good news. Yesterday, Kelsey had a great game that included stellar defensive play, timely hitting, aggressive base running and a game changing home run. On it's own that would merit player of the week honors, but when her Mom had come out just to watch her play it makes the decision a no brainer: Kelsey Harnisch is this week's undisputed player of the week! Congrats Kelsey and Death From Above!

The Hofmeister knows how to play ball--flat out. Over two games on the day The Hof was everywhere. He pitched, played solid d, had several extra base hits and was clearly the stand out player. Even if he does reign in awards with some regularity, it's just too hard not to heap praise on this lord of the softball diamond. Between the Hof and the Consummate Manager--whose passion can't be stunted by surgery--All My Subs bring some 'tude and some skill every day. Congrats Hof--you da man.
