Nike testing shorts at Underdog futsal
Nike testing shorts at Underdog futsal
Chris L is close to Nude, but no NEVER!
We were lucky enough to have a team sponsored by Nike this session. Never Nudes received the newest product yet to hit the market... Spjorts. Yes, we may being seeing them in the next World Cup but we got an up close (and maybe little too personal preview) of these Sports Jean Shorts. The plan was to keep them under wraps but Never Nudes were lucky enough to be asked to test them out.

All sizes and models were tested but we wanted to give Chris extra props for wearing the ladies small for game one. His early notes were great breath-ability and aerodynamics. Check them out next time you play against him, as long as you keep your eyes off of those Ronaldo-esque legs.

Call Her Yellow Submarine
Call Her Yellow Submarine
She's the deep sub
Depth. Anyone that follows sports knows that good teams have great players, but great teams have depth. They can work hard and know that their bench can support them when needed.

Let'z Kick Some Ballz has a secret weapon. She hides deep in the depths waiting to strike. Hollis refers to herself as the "deep sub" and you better watch out. Even as the only extra girl Ms. Baley stood with her jacket on knowing her playing time would be limited, but it did not matter. What she brings to the team is invaluable and that is fresh legs and a fighting spirit.

Coming on to play she worked her rudder off and then let the starter back on. It did not matter how long, she just knew when she was on she had a job to do and to be honest she did not do that bad of a job (we will let the swing and miss slide, due to the fact it was followed by a laugh and a smile).

Without subs, or for that matter, deep subs, no team would survive. So here is to our own Yellow Submarine and to every sub that plays Underdog Futsal... we would be nothing without you.

He's Got Two Nicknames
He's Got Two Nicknames
The good and bad
Jake owns up to the fact that his play can sometimes be inconsistent. Not only that but he has gone as far as to have two nicknames for each futsal persona. When you play Sweep The Leg listen for what his teammates call out, because we can guarantee you do not want to mess with Primetime.

Jake Primetime Trusheim has ball control, can whip in a shot from wherever he likes and will shut you down on defense. The name works because even under the bright lights of USL Futsal he shines, He can truly be prime time.

However, Primetime can also morph into someone else. Someone a little less proud of his game. That is where Princess comes in. Princess has brick feet and can laugh about it. You don't hear it called out often but Jake will be the first to admit when he has his high heels on instead of his adidas and is not focused on the game.

Many players like to think their game is always at its peak. Jake is in touch with the reality of the situation. We are amateurs trying to enjoy our night and whether he is Primetime or Princess he makes sure he does.

A ton of credit goes to the man that can give himself two names. We certainly hope to see a lot more of the Primetime persona throughout the season though!

Get Up and Celebrate
Get Up and Celebrate
Sit down and recuperate
Harry Dalgaard knows how to get pumped up for the second half. Well wait, no maybe he forgets. His head hurts a little from his high flying act so be cautious with him if he is a little slow on the field the next few games.

Going into the second half One Futsal We Need needed a spark. Harry knew exactly how to give it to them. Calling over one his teammates he ran up, gave quick three low fives then skied up into the air for a double high five with strength. Only problem is that Harry got a little too high. A few seconds after the celebration Harry slumped on the bench.

"Oh man, my head hurts man... got a little too intense," said Dalgaard. Maybe he did rise a little high to the occasion. Even with the recovery time on the bench Harry (and his team) came out wanting the win that much more in the second half. They gave it everything but in the end they came up a little short in a 3-4 loss.

We give a lot of credit to Harry, who came up anything but short in his effort to spark a second half effort from his team.

Patent That!
Patent That!
Sweatshirt goalkeeping gear
It was a sure goal. A pass into the net was all that was needed and it was headed in. Sack Lunch Tricksters were ready to celebrate...

But hold on. It's a bird... it's a plane... no it is just Pai (Chips and Salsa's keeper) sliding across the floor from about the three point line. His arm outstretched he knocked the ball out for a corner while continuing to slide close to the opposite side of the arch and hoping up to his feet.

The save was incredible, we will give him that. But what we noticed here at Underdog was the incredible slide. I think a trip to Shark Tank may be in order because Adidas and Nike may be thinking of a new sweatshirt top for their goalkeepers. Screw the burns on the floor and throw physics out the window, Pai has shown multiple times his outfit plays to his advantage. This time though, it was something to behold, a truly amazing save!

***Note: If this post motivates you to actually look into making the prototype and starting a business selling this type of top (which you should) you will see on the waiver you signed (line 4, section 2b, article 456c) we will receive royalties. Thanks!

***Just kidding, but no really you should read those things you sign. You never know...

Night of The Keepers
Night of The Keepers
She's a real keeper
As you may have noticed from the POTG's this week we were hot on the men and women between the sticks. It was a night of spectacular saves, creative distribution and a plethora of offense to be denied.

One keeper in particular caught our eye and that was Ms. Hesseldahl. Threesomes may have lost both of their games (to very good competition we might add), but it was Heidi's play that stood out, as she stood tall and repealed an incredible amount of shots. Her feet and legs did most of the work as she stretched to get balls that were dipping into the far bottom corners. Don't worry futsalers, we will be inspecting her for go-go gadget legs next week to make sure there are not any unfair advantages in the playoffs.

It as not just the saves, her communication was excellent as well. She kept her team organized and was positive throughout. When you are that good all around, on a night when keepers were the stars we just wanted Threesomes (and the rest of the league) to know that she's a real keeper that one.

Kirsten S (S for Safety)
Tie those shoelaces young man
Soccer players have come to have a little bit of a reputation for being selfish. They can time waste, dive, argue and only have one thing on their mind... a win for their team. Not Kirsten. Kirsten in a very unselfish moment took it upon herself to look out for the safety of her opponent.

In a close game, in which she could have left their goalkeeper tripping over himself, distracted by the folly... giving her team an advantage... she decided to take the road less traveled. Delaying a corner, ignoring the runs of her teammates, Kirsten yelled to the goalie to inform him about his shoelaces, completely ignoring how much time was on the clock, the magnitude of a playoff win, and the tightness of the match. In this moment she decided to be helpful and to be kind.

It is moments like this that remind us why we love Underdog sports (like Futsal) so much. It is not as if this is the only time people are kind, but we tend to see this type of attitude more often here. It was on display at other times during this season of Futsal, and we thank those who showed great sportsmanship, but tonight was about Kirsten and her simple act of unselfish kindness.

Stayed Focus
Everyone knows that in the playoffs the intensity is at an all new high. From the opening whistle to the end of the night Let'z Kick Some Balls lead by example. They were the favorites to win it all for many different reasons, but one reason why they have played so well is because they never forgot the main goal.
From opening week until the final whistle blew of the championship game, Let'z Kick Some Balls has always been focused on having fun. Unfortunately, the fun police, Memo wasn't there to cheer on and enjoy the fun, but his point carried across to the entire league.
The whole team had said right before the playoffs......"If we win, we win. But let's go out there and have a good time!"
A good time they did have and for keeping their cool and staying on track with "having fun" we give Let'z Kick Some Balls the Team of the Week Award, Congratulations!
