It was a beautiful evening for softball at Farragut Park on the one day of the week that's never rained out. In a four-team league, everyone has already gotten familiar with one another; and following two split regular-season matchups, the Portland Cucumbers and Ruth's Babes were ready to settle the score.

The game was tight until the 5th, when Ruth's Babes manufactured a 5-run rally to take a momentary lead, elating the redshirts. When you are as cool as the Portland Cucumbers, it's no big dill. Indeed, this wasn't the first pickle they'd been in. Responding with back-to-back 5-run innings of their own, the Cukes sealed the win and spring league title for their memory jar. Tune in next season, when these two savvy softball squads square off in the friendly confines of Irving Park.
